Julie Betts

Julie Betts, Aviation & Airport Business Analyst, has over 20 years experience in the Airline and Aviation industry, which also encompasses Travel and Tourism. Her knowledge in both worldwide international and domestic airline operations incorporates Sales, Marketing, Pricing Distribution, Airport Operations, Airline and Aviation Policy and Travel Agency Operations for wholesale, retail and corporate market segmentation. In 1983, she joined Penthouse Travel which dealt with wholesale tour programs to India, Sri Lanka, The Maldive Islands and Switzerland. She negotiated contracts with local operators at these destinations, and coordinated brochure production and booking processes. Additionally, Ms. Betts oversaw the retail and corporate travel operations and managed contracts. In 1988, she joined Ansett Australia where she was involved in all aspects of the airline's operations both domestically and internationally and was an integral team member for the start up of Ansett's international operations in 1992. In 1999, Ms. Betts moved to the worldwide industry leader for distribution of airline fares and fare related data. Additionally, she has served as a delegate and chair on working groups under the auspices of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

TMG Past Performance

Example 1:  Performed consulting for several international airlines.  The basic recurring problem concerned arrival times of international charter flights.  Many charters end and return on weekends, often late Saturday night, early Sunday morning.  Although the airlines schedule an arrival time before midnight, it is a fact of life in the charter business that many of these flights are late.  Customs and Border Protection are impacted heavily by this, because the late arrivals create staffing and shift problems for early the next morning and cause major increases in overtime pay for inspection personnel.  The federal government maintains a strict management of overtime payments and port personnel are evaluated on how they manage this part of the budget.  TMG Team facilitated a better understanding between the two entities in emphasizing the importance of the charter airlines being open about their scheduling problems and gaining better trust and relationships with all parties.  In most cases, we were able to reach an agreeable solution or at least foster better communications.

Example 2:  Performed assistance to several major airlines including Qantas and Lufthansa in obtaining their IT membership in Customs Automated//Advance Manifest System.  This system electronically transmits the aircrafts cargo manifest to Customs several hours prior to its arrival enabling better processing for facilitation and anti-terrorist screening.  TMG Team also assisted several airlines in obtaining certification in APIS, Advanced Passenger Information System, in which airlines electronically transmit their passenger manifests for early screening by Customs resulting in faster passenger processing.

Example 3:  Consulted several large companies such as Smithfield Foods, ADM, Mission Foods, Mobil Oil, etc. in obtaining overflight clearances from Customs ensuring better facilitation of executive?s time in processing international borders.  Under current regulations, all private flights arriving from the south of the United States have to report to designated airports along the southern tier of the U.S. for Customs and Immigration purposes.  Overflight clearances allow these flight to proceed directly to their destination, such as Dulles International Airport.

Example 4:  Participated in multiple ATPCO efficiency projects resulting in labor cost savings for customers? pricing implementation departments. Examples:

A.   Invoice Online (web application) and Government Filing System Product Query Screen (IBM mainframe) projects aid efficiency when budgeting and forecasting. These tools allow for downloading of invoiced data and fare and rule filing counts. Previously, billing information was taken from invoices manually; product count information was not available.
B.   Expired Data Project concentrated on the automated removal of customer data that was not yet finalized or released in subscription output for Automated Rules, International Fares and US/CA Fares systems. This project aided system performance and alleviated the necessity for pricing implementation analysts to dedicate valuable resource time that is otherwise spent on pricing analysis and initiatives.

Strategic Partnerships

TMG has built partnerships across the world to eliminate the borders that separate countries and continents today.  With the world becoming a global marketplace, TMG is in step with the movement taking place today.

In particular, TMG has formed strategic partnerships with European Aviation groups that will further enhance and magnify the reputation and competency of its practice.  One such partnership is with SMI Aviation Consulting Group AG of Zug, Switzerland  (www.avcogroup.com).  SMI has a stellar reputation in the aviation industry with worldwide experience and a depth and knowledge of the aviation business.  SMI has built its reputation on the individual experience of the partners, as well as capitalizing on the relationships of major businesses and governments. Its partners and experts all have extensive experience in all sectors of the aviation business. The core competencies are implementation of management systems to optimize business operations, technical and line operations, quality management systems compliant with all relevant JAA and ISO standards, business process re-engineering, deployment of business and marketing strategies, development of organizational structures.

One thing I noticed and something which I like is that the site seems to lean towards scale aircraft modeling, as much as towards real aviation

Hello folks I am considering joining the United States Marine Corps as an aviator. They have a program with a flight contract that would guarantee me a seat in flight school I am a college graduate, and so far it is my best shot at becoming a military aviator considering my options. Have any of you been/are any of you military aviators? What traits make the difference between a good pilot and a great pilot?

People were kissing the ground and putting their hands together like they were praying, he said. There were girls sobbing and children crying.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Transportation,Government of the Republic of Indonesia (GoI) is responsible for civil aviation policy, regulation, safety and security oversight through the GoI Aviation Act 1992, together with a number of Presidential and Ministerial Decrees. Under these arrangements, DGCA is responsible for the safety and regulation of civil aviation in Indonesia, including oversight of airport and airworthiness standards as well as regulating Air Traffic Control, Airspace Management and Air Service Agreements.

Current Ministry of Transportation policy and DGCA policy provide for strategic changes to Indonesia’s airspace management system, commencing this current year 2008. The objective is to merge the current two-airspace management systems into a single airspace management system, along with separation of the regulator from operations and its restructure into a capable regulator for the future growth and provision of more efficient, safe and secure services for the aviation industry in Indonesia. This will include re-organization of air traffic management and airport service providers Angkasa Pura 1 and Angkasa Pura II, into single service providers for air traffic management services and operations and airport ownership, services and operations. To support planned growth in civil aviation and to address known deficiencies, Indonesia’s civil aviation capabilities require enhancement and reform. Consequently, in 2007 Indonesia’s National Safety and Security Evaluation Committee for Transportation (EKKT) developed nine recommendations for accelerated implementation.

The DGCA Civil Aviation Strategic Action Plan (CASAP) was developed in mid 2007 taking into account the nine recommendations agreed by the GoI. The CASAP provides a roadmap for capability enhancements consistent with the Global Aviation Safety Roadmap, national, international and regional plans and recommended world’s best practice in civil aviation safety. The CASAP identifies a key theme of improved services, safety and security through compliance. The CASAP also describes five key strategic objectives for sustainable civil aviation safety improvement.

Thanks for this post. It's really informative. I've been looking for aviation books in Clapham Common shops but I never thought that this site would be the best reference for me.

Part of the CATT role will be to coordinate internal and external assistance for DGCA in the planning and implementation of a separate Public Service Organization (Badan Layanan Umum), charged with the responsibility of providing enhanced air traffic management services which are currently undertaken by the current service providers. The development of a single ATM service provider and a National Indocontrol Centre is inherent in the establishment of the BLU entity.
